Big Picture Talkers
The Big Picture Talkers is a collaborative of organizations and individuals working together to promote, The History of Wilmington in Black and White, and to assure that participating community members and students can use their knowledge gained in this course to create a positive impact on race relations in the community.

The Big Picture Talkers are named after a quote from Zora Neale Hurston’s, Their Eyes Were Watching God.  “The sun was gone, but he left his footprints in the sky.  It was the time for sitting on porches beside the road.  It was the time to hear things and talk.  These sitters had been tongueless, earless, eyeless conveniences all day long.  Mules and other brute had occupied their skins.  But now, the sun and the bossman were gone, so the skins felt powerful and human.  They became lords of sounds and lesser things.  They passed nations through their mouths.  They sat in judgment.”  These were the Big Picture Talkers.
